Hey guys just dropping buy to ask a few questions. This is for anyone who can help me out. I remember when I was in the guild I was getting ready to upgrade my computer. Well its been roughly around 6 months and I havent upgraded it yet. I remember talking to sting and a few others and was wanting to get some opinions.

I was looking as processors and motherboard combos and I was wanting to know whats the best and cheapest to get on the market right now. Im looking to only spend around 500-600$ on a motherboard+cpu. I was looking at the 2500k, 2600 and some other intel processors. If I could get soem feedback I would greatly appreciate it.

Motherboard wise I was looking at the Asus Sabertooth x58 and the asus p8p67. If you guys have one of these if you could give me some sort of review or help me out that would be great.

The X58 motherboards uses LGA1366 socket, that is for the first generation i7 900 series. For the current generation of i5s and i7s like the 2500k and 2600, you need a motherboard with a LGA1155 Socket.

Yeah im still debating on what motherboard to get and I know all the sockets it uses. Im trying to get the most bang for my buck. Even if that means not getting the 2500k and 2600. Right now im using a XFX 790i mobo with a q6700 and its just running sluggish and ive started having problems ouf of the ram slots. Not to mention my graphics card is on its way out which is a GTX 285 so im prob going to have to up my limit to around 1k to get some new upgrades. Last time I talked to sting I believe he recommended the either the 2500k or 2600.

if gaming is all you're interested in, then the best deal atm is probably the i5 2500 or 2550. like yan pointed out, you need a LGA1155 motherboard for either of those, so the sabertooth x58 is out. motherboard+cpu should only be about $300.

If you do really like the saber tooth line of mobos they have. You can look at their p67 sabertooth as well.

I would recommend a 2500k, and one of asus' mainstream p67 boards; the one you listed is an example, or the sabertooth p67.

The "thermal armor" on the p67 sabertooth is hogwash honestly though and in some cases might even get in the way of some cable routing; the extra 2 year warranty (5 total) versus the mainline boards is very nice though.

Lots of others might also recommend the rog Maximus Iv. Honestly, for your average user, you don't need anything on it as any of the other boards are perfectly capable of modest overclocks if you do that.

I have an i5 2500 and a P67 and it's pretty much the bees knees.

I forgot to clarify; p67 is the chipset that supports the LGA 1155 socket, which is the socket that the i5 2500k CPU uses.

In retrospect, the x58 is the chipset that supports LGA 1366 socket, which is for the older generation i5/i7.

This is why when shopping for motherboards, assuming you're interested in the 2500 / 2600k you only want to look at p67 or z68.

IIRC. Z67 is the newest series of 1155 mobos, try getting them instead.

Yeah Im also having problems with my graphics card now. Everytime I play anygame I just crash and it goes into recovery and comes back up. Ive tried rolling back the drivers and even doing a fresh install. I checked the settings to see if its overheating and its not. GTX 285 and I looked on the forums and alot of people are having issues out of these cards from XFX and they no longer make or support them which sucks. So not only am I in the market for a new mobo/cpu now im looking at a graphics card.

Im looking to spend around 800-1k total for all of them.(Wife was gracious enough to up my spending limits lol). I really like the GTX 580 and it has really good reviews and seems like a good solid upgrade. The cheaper one im looking at is GTX 460 so im still trying to decide which is the best for me. I think the GTX 580 is a bit overkill just for playing WoW and LoL. So still looking around.

I like the GTX 570 currently, less expensive than a GTX 580 and puts out a lot less heat/noise. And not all that much slower.

I am looking to buy a graphics card as well. My problem is I much rather buy it in a brick & mortar store, since its difficult to get packages delivered to my apartment. My budget is ~$200, so I have been looking at the GTX 550Ti. Any suggestions?

550's kinda on the bad side. Should be able to get a GTX 460 which is somewhat better, or a GTX 560, which is even better than that, for less than $200.

Don't think the 768MB version of the GTX 460 is still on the market. GTX 470 is also discontinued. So you'd be looking at 1GB GTX 460, or GTX 560 Ti.

Thanks for the advice. Looking at GTX 560 Ti now, especially since the BestBuy thats near my work has it for the same price as Newegg. It came out over a year ago though, so I am wondering if its worth waiting a bit for the next generation of cards.

Next Gen of ati cards r already out, nvidia ones should be out in April.

So, my brother's been looking to buy a new card, and he was looking at the 550 as well. What I'm wondering is, what makes the 460 a better buy than the 550?
